General Description: The Public Relations Specialist will assist with all aspects of marketing and public relations for Oklahoma City Community College including, but not limited to, the following: writing and distributing news releases, media relations, social media, copywriting for publications, event promotion, the layout of routine college publications, and tracking print and broadcast media coverage.

Job Duties (Duties Assignment Statement):
Gather information, prepare, pitch, and distribute news releases and feature stories to both internal and external publics.
Assist with the promotion of college and community events.
Copywriting and editing for various college publications.
Coordinate the timely submission of material to media outlets and other publications of importance to the college community.
Layout routine college publications are consistent with college brand standards.
Measure media coverage and provide media reports as required.
Assist with the planning and implementation of earned media and public relations campaigns.
Assist with the curation and creation of content on the OCCC website and social media channels.
Serve as backup PIO and assist Executive Director and Director with emergency communications.
Represent the department at business and community meetings; may conduct tours and/or give presentations.
Assist the Director with project management.
Maintain metro and statewide media lists.
Other duties as assigned.
Job Duties (Safety / Policy & Procedures):
Abide by the policies and procedures published in the Board of Regents Policies and College Policies & Procedures.
Contribute to a safe educational & working environment.
Adhere to established safety and health procedures and practices for the purpose of providing injury and illness prevention for self and others.
Complete quarterly health and safety training pursuant to OCCC’s established safety and health procedures and practices.
Participate in all applicable OCCC emergency, evacuation and shelter in place drills and be prepared to take action and assist others in taking appropriate action should a health or safety emergency occur.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Excellent communication and writing skills.
Ability to meet deadlines.
Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and applications.
Exceptional skills required in copywriting, proofing, and publishing.
Some graphic design knowledge will also be required. Experience with Adobe desktop publishing software products.
Knowledge of social media platforms and strategy
Ability to work a varied schedule.

Sedentary work: The person in this position may occasionally exert up to 10 pounds of force to grasp, lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

This position requires the person to frequently communicate with and listen to administration, staff, faculty, students, and others to perform the essential functions of the position. Must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations.
This position frequently requires the person to operate a computer, other office equipment, and mobile devices/equipment to perform the essential functions of the position.
This position requires the person to frequently operate equipment that involves repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
This position requires the person to frequently position self to access materials that may be above head or at ground level.
This position requires the person to perceive attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.
3. VISUAL ACUITY:
This position requires the person to judge, observe and assess the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations.
4. WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position performs the essential functions in an indoor, office setting.

Associate degree in public relations or business marketing, journalism or communications-related field.
Working knowledge of AP Style.
At least one year of experience in social media management, public relations, or journalism.
Bachelor’s degree in public relations or business marketing, journalism or communications-related field
2 – 5 years of prior social media management, marketing, public relations, and journalism experience
Graphic design skills.
