Position Summary

Pairing creative acumen with a strong command of grammar, the Copywriter crafts original content that inspires and informs. This versatile writer is able to transition seamlessly between diverse writing styles to create engaging content for audiences across a range of platforms and literacy levels.

Essential to this position is the ability to forge strong relationships with marketing strategists, program staff, and executive leaders to ensure all content is aligned with strategic goals and stakeholder needs. Content areas include but are not limited to self-sufficiency, work readiness, family-strengthening initiatives, strategic communications, translational or applied research, and facilitator training.

Proficient in Associated Press (AP), Chicago Manual of Style, and other style guides, this astute editor is also skilled in honing content for grammar, clarity, and conciseness.

Essential Job Functions

  • Drive the creation of written content including presentation and training materials, social and digital media, and interactive resources that cater to different learning styles and audience preferences
  • Write compelling press releases, website content, brochures, ad copy, and other marketing materials
  • Develop and refine tip sheets, briefs, and reports
  • Produce engaging scripts for videos and events
  • Collaborate with internal and external subject matter experts to develop, organize, and produce project deliverables
  • Create programmatic content to support project implementation, including meetings, conferences, training and technical assistance tools, videos, and multimedia tools
  • Understand and incorporate effective adult learning strategies into products
  • Implement content curation strategies to identify, gather, and organize valuable internal and external knowledge resources
  • Review and refine long-form products, including program curricula
  • Develop clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation for company products, processes, and knowledge base
  • Edit a variety of technical and marketing materials for grammar, style, spelling, and punctuation
  • Translate research from subject matter experts to more accessible language
  • Ensure voice, tone, and literacy levels are appropriate for target audiences
  • Adhere to editorial style guides and project-specific style sheets
  • Contribute to proposal and business development efforts
  • Other duties as assigned



  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Marketing, Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, or other relevant field, required


  • Minimum five years of professional writing and editing experience

  • Outstanding writing skills, with proven ability to write concisely and persuasively
  • Discernment in ensuring that approaches are relevant to specific client and business needs
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; able to diplomatically communicate revisions to internal and external collaborators
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects concurrently while meeting deadlines
  • Extensive knowledge of Associated Press Stylebook and Chicago Manual of Style; familiarity with American Psychological Association (APA), Modern Language Association (MLA), and Government Publishing Office (GPO) style guides preferred
  • Proficient in MS Office products, desktop publishing, and project management software
  • Passion for working on projects that impact the social good and provide services for low-income individuals and families
