Position Summary
The Business Development Lead ensures competitive proposals across federal, state and private sector projects. This professional leads Public Strategies’ business development efforts by 1) developing effective proposal systems 2) helping monitor business opportunities 3) conducting research 4) cultivating strong relationships with subject matter experts 5) project managing and writing proposals, pitches, scopes of work, and other written materials 6) fostering business development opportunities 7) supporting proposal budgeting and 8) delivering timely, compliant, and compelling proposals. This driven, detail-oriented leader has demonstrated success producing high quality business development materials under tight deadlines.
Essential Job Functions
- Manage preparation and delivery of competitive proposals and capability statements through research and information gathering, outline development, writing, graphics coordination, timeline and project management, and quality control
- Write, research, and edit proposal content tailored to the client and the solicitation criteria; coordinate information gathering from leadership and subject matter experts as needed
- Develop polished proposals and solicitation responses, pitches, presentations, requests for information (RFIs), scopes of work, and other business development materials
- Train a team of individuals who write, coordinate, and design proposals; help build organizational capacity for proposal expertise more widely across organization
- Monitor and identify promising opportunities for new business, using CRM system; contribute to new business acquisition strategy
- Establish and maintain processes and standards to assure competitive proposals
- Oversee maintenance of proposal assets and an archive of completed proposals
- Set up tasks and monitor progress to ensure effective communication, workflow, quality, and timeliness
- Support broader organizational initiatives to strengthen processes and procedures, a strong team culture, continuous quality improvement (CQI), and effective marketing/communications
- Other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree, required
- Will consider 4+ years work experience in lieu of degree
- Minimum five years of business development and writing experience
- Proven success writing and project managing proposals
- Demonstrated success securing funding for proposals and/or grants
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and proven ability to write clearly and persuasively
- Strong content development and storytelling expertise
- In-depth knowledge of AP, Chicago, APA and MLA style guides
- Understanding of government solicitations and RFPs
- Spanish language skills, preferred
- Proficient in MS Office products
- Exceptional organizational and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to understand the business context and goals for product efforts
- Discernment in ensuring that approaches are relevant to specific client and business needs
- Knowledgeable of government systems, human services, and the issues impacting families with low incomes
- Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, maintaining flexibility and performing at a high level when faced with time constraints
- Local/regional travel; moderate domestic travel
